The Niger Delta region of Nigeria has long been at the forefront of the country’s oil production, significantly contributing to the national economy. However, this wealth has come at a tremendous cost to the environment and the livelihoods of local communities. Decades of oil exploration and extraction have led to severe environmental pollution, including oil spills, gas flaring, and deforestation. These activities have devastated marine and terrestrial ecosystems, destroyed farmlands, and displaced numerous communities, plunging them into economic and social instability. Recognizing the urgent need for a sustainable future, Lincgreen Prospects and Janikoba Lifetouching Foundation organized the Look Beyond Oil Conference on June 5, 2024, coinciding with World Environment Day.
The conference, a hybrid event hosted by Lincgreen Prospects and Janikoba Lifetouching Foundation aimed to address the pressing environmental challenges in the Niger Delta, explore alternative economic opportunities, and engage stakeholders in meaningful dialogue.
