OUR HISTORY
ORIGIN OF LINCGREEN CLIMATE CHANGE INITIATIVE
Bayelsa and Delta States were among the hardest hit. In Bayelsa alone, tens of thousands of homes were submerged, and critical infrastructure was destroyed. The floods caused significant economic losses, exacerbating the plight of already vulnerable communities.
During our research into the flooding, we encountered a heart-wrenching story that deeply moved us and ignited our commitment to climate action. We met a woman in Bayelsa who had lost her child as he drowned right in their home. Her story, along with the stories of many others who lost loved ones, lands, and properties, underscored the urgent need for proactive measures to mitigate the impacts of such disasters. Our interactions with these affected communities in the Niger Delta revealed that many of the devastating effects of flooding and other disasters have underlying root causes linked to climate change. We learned that issues such as drought and flooding, which are increasingly peculiar to Nigeria, are exacerbated by climate change.
Determined to make a difference, we looked deeply into understanding the causes and effects of these disasters. We gathered a team of young experts from various fields, all united by a passion for change and a deep understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to environmental issues. Our team came together, deliberating on the issues peculiar to Nigeria and developing intervention frameworks at the community level. We decided to LINK for climate action, leading to the establishment of Lincgreen Prospects.
