On the 6th of July, we accompanied our mentor, Engr. Andah Wai-Ogosu, who is one of the most decorated environmentalists in the Niger Delta and is currently the President of the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP). This movement is crucial in the history of Niger, especially given that activist Ken Saro-Wiwa’s life was cut short in his bid to draw attention to the injustice perpetuated by International Oil Companies (IOCs) in Ogoni Land. We visited the Sii community, the first community in Ogoni land, where, according to history, the first migrants settled and which served as the bedrock for the evolution of the Ogoni people. Engr. Andah and our team received a warm welcome as Engr. Andah Wai-Ogosu was conferred the chieftaincy title of Mene Nyaa na ba loo MOSOP 1 (Transformer of MOSOP) of Ogoni by the Regent of Sii Community (Nama). Thank You for your kind words sir, this is a significant milestone for us in our collaborative efforts with MOSOP and the Ogoni people as it is very critical to our research and advocacy.
